Sort by Selected Bar in Excel

So I have a table with data like this:

|!|!|!|

|1|2|3|

|1|2|3|

|1|2|3|

I need to sort it by the bar value, and the actual data should still be there:

|!|!|!|

|1|2|3|

|1|2|3|

|1|2|3|

I've already tried

A1:1/1:2/3

but that messes it up completely.

While it is possible to create a pivot table that "squashes" or sorts your original data, it's a complex operation that may not work correctly (especially if there are non-numeric values in the data), and it becomes quite unmanageable when you want to add in more values.

Instead, use a pivot table to create a summary table, which will allow you to sort the summary by whichever field you wish (obviously, the summary field will be a count of the non-null values).

If you wish to sort the "real" data, you need to create a pivot table that filters out the non-numerical values, and then "unfilter" the data to revert to its original state (so the pivot chart will appear as shown above).

If this is something you want to do in a script, you might use something like the following (based on this answer):

' returns false if not numeric, or returns false and handles

' values equal to zero
