The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 is an international Twenty20 cricket World Cup tournament. It is the tenth edition of the Cricket World Cup, and also the first World Cup to be played in India. The tournament was held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, starting on April 29, 2011 and ending on May 23, 2011. It was organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with the support of the Government of India. The official sponsor of the tournament was the Coca-Cola Company, which has a joint sponsorship with the ICC. The title sponsors were Star Sports Network and the Indian broadcasters DD Sports. The 2011 edition was hosted by India, with matches in Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata and Nagpur in this order. Only teams from the host country played in this edition of the World Cup. The tournament consisted of 20 matches, each of which was held as a single match played between two teams (with the exception of the semi-finals and final). The top eight ranked nations from the ICC Rankings of April 2011 participated in the tournament. The top eight ranked teams was decided on April 20, 2011. The top 4 teams were seeded according to their world rankings from April 2010, while the other top 4 teams were determined by the ICC World Rankings used during the tournament.
Giorgio Gori obtained the World Cup deal for his company Giorgio Gori Cricket Developments Ltd. The company was formed in 2003 and was contracted by the ICC to produce broadcasting equipment and tablets. It is owned by Giorgio Gori, who is also the World Cup Trophy provider. Giorgio Gori Cricket Developments Ltd has an exclusivity agreement with the ICC and is also the World Cup winner sponsor.
