Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 tablespoon dried basil leaves
1 teaspoon fennel seed
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions:
Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, basil, fennel seed, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until smooth. Alternatively, you can transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until smooth.
Use immediately, or store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
