Sending UDP Packets in C
I want to send the UDP packets to specific port using C using struct sockaddr_in.
For some reason, the input is always full of garbage;
Why does this function only returns an error code and not an actual packet (something gets sent but not the expected UDP packet)?
int sendto(int socket, const char *address, int port, const void *data, int length)
{
struct sockaddr_in local, destination;
socklen_t addrLength = sizeof(local);
int status;
if(socket < 0)
perror("Error opening socket: ");
exit(-1);
if(getsockname(socket, (struct sockaddr *)&local, &addrLength) < 0)
perror("Error getting socket name: ");
exit(-1);
if((int)strcmp(address, "127.0.0.1") == 0)
address = "127.0.0.1"; //default socket when connecting with local address
if(inet_pton(AF_INET, address, &destination.sin_addr) < 1)
perror("Error at inet_pton: ");
exit(-1);
destination.sin_port = htons(port); //port number
destination.sin_family = AF_INET; //address family
local.sin_port = htons(0);
local.sin_family = AF_INET;
