Detecting a users network connection and loading specific html when offline

I'm trying to detect if a user is connected to the internet or not. I am currently loading the html of a website that is served from my PC into a tag on the homepage of my site. When a user is offline, a small generic HTML page is loaded.

I would like the.html file to load when a user is offline. I also would like it to show a loading spin when a user is offline, instead of showing a generic page like "we are loading content" when the user is offline.

Any help would be appreciated

This requires one add-on file and custom server-side code.

The best way to do this is to have your Apache server return a 304 status code to prevent the second page from being loaded.

The best add-on to have is the Offline Single Page App Add-on.

An example is here. In that example, you'll see they have a pre-built solution but you can hack the JavaScript to disable the navigate.

If it is important that the application load properly, you can do it manually. Below is one method.

From within the application, create a that changes the href to /offline_page.html on every page load. The redirect can be done server-side or client-side,
